Introduction

 

I. Brief Introduction to BCBI

The Beijing Chinese Business Institute (BCBI), founded in1994, is an international technical secondary institute and boarding school. The BCBI is approved to offer middle vocational qualifications, preparing students for study in China and abroad. The BCBI has a high level joint venture agreement with the Holmesglen Institute of Technical and Further Education, Australia, for the delivery of programs at the BCBI in China and is proactive in developing global education links for the benefit of our students. The school has been awarded the Capital Civilization School, National Middle School Moral Education Advanced Group and the National Advanced Trade School by the government.

The institute has two large campuses, the North Campus which shares its grounds with the Beijing Materials Institute, a Multi discipline university, and the South Campus which is located in Yunqiao Jiayuan, Tong zhou District, and is an entirely independent premises of some 20,000 square meters. Both campuses are just over 10 kilometers from the city centre. Transportation to the city is cheap, convenient and easy.

The campus environment is beautiful and the Institute has a team of well-qualified teachers and support staff. The institute is well equipped with flexible learning centers (FLC), computer, phonetics, art, physics, reading, music and piano rooms, chemistry and biology laboratories, library, performance hall, lecture hall, practice courtroom, art gallery, museum and culture corridor. The Institute also has a high quality gymnasium, table tennis, chess and games room, roller skating rink, first class athletics track, basketball and volleyball courts, etc.

The Beijing Times Secondary College (BTSC) which is a part of the BCBI has both junior and senior middle schools and conducts all courses set by the Education Department of the Chinese government. Overseas students can study courses at junior middle school (12-15 years old) and senior middle school (15-18 years old) . Students (6-12 years old) can also study in the primary school linked to the BCBI.

All foreign students who obtain Level 6 of HSK and continue to study Chinese for 1 year after they graduate from BTSC or BCBI will be awarded the Diploma of Chinese Language issued by the Beijing International Economical and Trade College.

The BCBI continues to develop and keep pace with the demands of global education and the modern world. With its success in teaching and a highly relevant curriculum, the BCBI is one of the top-level institutes of its type in China today.

C. Technical Secondary School (formal award-3 years)

Main Subjects: Chinese, Modern Chinese Grammar, Chinese Society and Structure, Chinese Customs & Culture, HSK Course.

2. Chinese Culture

Main Subjects: Chinese, Characters, History, Society & Structure, Geography, Culture Outline, Customs, HSK Course, Calligraphy, Painting, Tea Arts, Dietetics

3. Chinese Martial Arts

Main Subjects: Chinese, Written Characters, Society & Structure, Customs, HSK Course. Elementary and Intermediate Tutorial for Wu Shu, Basic Performance Art, Striking Basics, Health Preservation, Shadowboxing, Swordplay, Wrestling, Arrest Arts.

4. Chinese Traditional Health Preservation

Main Subjects: Chinese, Written Characters, Society & Structure, Customs, HSK Course, Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medical Science, Traditional Massage, Traditional Acupuncture, Basic Traditional Pharmacology, Traditional Regimen, Nutrition & Diet, Wu Shu.

Whilst the above sets out the formal courses available to overseas students, there are also other subjects available in the fields of Business, Secretarial, Law, Computer Graphics / Commercial Art, Kindergarten Teaching and Fashion Modeling. These subjects may be offered on a 'sit-in' basis with normal Chinese student classes. Additional fees and charges may apply for these subjects.

 

  • Awards: Chinese Secondary College Education Certificate or a Chinese Vocational Education Certificate, if students are unable to complete or are unsuccessful in completing the course, a record of study (transcript) will be issued by the school.

III. Conditions of Enrolment

1. Students studying for the formal award (including Junior and Senior Middle level and Technical Secondary level) should be under the age of 20. For students studying for a non-formal Award, there is no age limit.

2. Students should be healthy, of good behavior, obey Chinese Law, the rules of the BCBI and respect Chinese customs and habits

 

IV. Application Procedure

1. Date of application:

Autumn Semester Enrollment: before 15th, June

Spring Semester Enrollment: before 15th, December

Students wishing to study for non-award courses, can contact the BCBI at anytime.

2. Enrolment Information and Application Forms

Intending students should contact the BCBI or agency or download the Application Form from the internet (www.bcbitimes.com).

Before completing the Application Form you should read the information contained in this prospectus. In particular, you should ensure that you fully understand the Institute's Terms and Conditions of Enrolment and the Fee Payment and Refund Procedures.

If you are under the age of 18 the Application Form must also be signed by your parent (or guardian).

3. Enrolment information required by the Institute

A. For students studying long-term: (over six months)

Copy of passport

HSK Test score record (if undertaken)

Application fee (USD30)

Enrolment application form with latest photo

Physical examination form with latest photo (if over 16 years old)

If under 18 years old:

A Certified family relationship certificate

A certified Parents letter of entrustment

A certified guardian's letter of guarantee

B. For students studying short-term: (courses of six months or less)

Enrolment application form with latest photo

Copy of passport.

4. Application procedure

A. For students who apply abroad:

Successful applicants will receive a Letter of offer and Form JW202, the student must take the Offer Letter and the Form to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their country to obtain a student visa.

The following must be brought to China:

The Offer Letter, Form JW202, passport, eight passport photos and the completed medical examination form including results for blood test, HIV/AIDS test, X-rays and report, original cardiogram printout and report. Please read the requirements of the medical examination form.

B. Students who apply in China should go directly to the BCBI to register and bring their visa.

Students failing to arrive as scheduled may have their enrolment cancelled and the enrolment fee forfeited.

 

V. Fees and charges (for individuals)

• Application fee USD30

• Tuition fees USD4800 / academic year ( including teaching material, uniform, meals and shared accommodation with the Chinese students )

• Activity fees USD1300 / academic year (including organization for visits, entertainment activities; arrangements for language partner & home stay at weekends; internet, etc. Does not include tutor fee)

• Visa, Certificate, Insurance, Health examination, Medical treatment and Guardianship fees (students under 18 years of age) will be at the students own expense, accommodation service fees are in other documents.

• Short Course tuition fee only including Classroom teaching .

• Chinese currency will also be accepted.

VI. Fee Payment and Refund Procedures

1. FEE CONDITIONS

1.1 On application for admission to a course, a fee of US$30 is payable.

1.2 For Students applying through the Institute's accredited agents, the US$30 application fee with their application will be forwarded to BCBI/BTSC

1.3 The application fee of US$30 is non-refundable in the case of a student withdrawing an application after being accepted.

1.4 If the student's application for admission is rejected, then the US$30 application fee will be reimbursed in full.

1.5 Tuition fees are payable yearly or half-yearly (one semester) in advance.

1.6 The total Tuition fees for Chinese programs is payable in advance. No partial payment is possible.

1.7 With the exception of Chinese programs, students who pay their fees yearly in advance will receive a 5% discount on the yearly tuition fee.

1.8 Tuition fees are payable only by international bank draft payable to BCBI. The Institute will not be responsible for any monies paid to an agent.

1.9 There is no reduction in fees for subject exemptions.

2 . REFUND PROCEDURES

If after payment of fees a student withdraws an application, the following will apply:

2.1 If notice of withdrawal is received by BCBI/BTSC in writing more than four weeks prior to commencement of the course, a 75% refund of tuition fees will be made to students who paid yearly in advance and a 50% refund will be made to students who paid half-yearly in advance.

2.2 No refund of the first semester's fee will be made to students withdrawing from the course less than four weeks prior to commencement or after commencement of the course. For students who paid yearly in advance, a 75% refund of the second semester's tuition fee will be made where notification of withdrawal is received in writing four weeks before the end of the first semester. No refund of the second semester's fee will be made to a student withdrawing less than four weeks before the end of the first semester.

2.3 Where a student has had to withdraw because he/she has been refused a visa to enter China, a full refund of all tuition fees will be made less the US$30 application fee.

2.4 Refunds will only be processed once a student has returned to his/her home country and the Institute is satisfied that his/her visa has been cancelled.

2.5 No refund will be made to third parties.

2.6 Where students have paid for Institute accommodation in advance: a 90% refund will be made to students withdrawing up to four weeks before the commencement of the course. A 75% refund will be made to students withdrawing less than four weeks before the commencement of the course. No refund will be made after the course has commenced.

2.7 No refunds will be given under any circumstances to students who do not abide by the conditions of their visa.

2.8 These procedures do not remove the right of an international student to take further action under Chinese consumer protection laws.

2.9 Claims for refunds should be made as soon as practical after withdrawal. Claims must be in writing and should be addressed to the Director, International Centre.

2.10 Refunds that are approved will be made within four weeks after receipt of a written claim.

2.11 Where a visa is refused in circumstances where fraudulent documents were submitted with the visa application, the Institute reserves the right to penalize the student for an amount of up to 50% of all fees paid.
