General Regulations for Enrollment of students studying abroad in

International Chinese Language Training Center, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, People’s Republic of China

Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications (BUPT) is one of the national key universities combing various specialties in engineering, management, humanities, sciences and language. This university mainly trains students working for the PhD, the master’s and bachelor’s degrees.

BUPT is located in the north of the 3rd loop of China’s Capital, a cultural and educational region with many famous universities in it. The campus of BUPT faces Tucheng Park, the ruins of ancient Yuan Dynasty capital walls, and Xiaoyue River scenic area. It has a quiet, comfortable environment and is very convenient for transportation.

In order to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and enhance mutual understanding and friendly relationship with peoples the world over, BUPT has held short-term or long-term Chinese language courses since 1986 and achieved great success in this field. The participants were from various counties, including Japan, U.S.A. Canada, France, Sweden, Great Britain, Republic of Korea, Spain,Denmark, Russia etc. Through these courses, BUPT has trained a great number of foreigners to acquire a very good knowledge of Chinese. BUPT graciously welcomes those who are interested in studying Chinese here.

1.Criteria and Qualification

People who are below the age of 65 and are interested in Chinese will be eligible if he or she is in good health and willing to observe the laws and decrees of the People’s Republic of China and rules and regulations of BUPT.

2.Formalities

A. It could be signing up collectively as a group, being entrusted to hold a course by any foreign organization or applying individually by correspondence.

B. Applicants should correctly fill in the form “Application Form for Admission to Chinese Training Course in BUPT” and bear a signed letter of guarantee. Those who want to attend classes in spring should mail the above mentioned form and letter of guarantee to International Chinese Language Training Center before January 30; while applicants attending autumn courses are required to have the form and guarantee returned before July 30. Qualifications being confirmed, the Center will give a prompt reply and send the applicants “Admission Notice of BUPT”, “Location introduction of BUPT”,form “Jw202” and “Medical Checkup Form for foreigners” issued by National Committee of Education, People’s Republic of China.

C. Bearing “Admission Notice of BUPT” and the above-mentioned “Forms”, applicants may apply for visa (X) or visa (F) to China in local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. (Note: Applicants intending to study more than half a year should apply for visa (X).

D. Students who are to study more than half a year should have “Medical Checkup Form for Foreigners” for health checkup in the hospital. (Note: They should bring with them the original “Medical Checkup Form for Foreigners”, original “AIDS and Syphilis Blood Laboratory Test Report”, original “Electrocardiogram Report”).

3.Registration

A. According to the time stipulated in “Admission Notice”, the applicants should bear form “JW202”, “Admission Notice” and form “Medical Checkup for Foreigners” to register in International Chinese Language Center of BUPT.

B. On registering passport and visa are to be shown and examined; tuition and lodging fee are paid; registration formalities are to be gone through.

C. On special circumstances if the participant is unable to register on schedule, he or she should make an application to the Training Center beforehand, otherwise exceeding the allowed time limit will be considered as automatically canceling the admission requirements (or qualification of enrollment) Any participant who arrive in the Beijing Capital Airport could show the “Location introduction of BUPT ” to the taxi driver. And then, he will take you directly to BUPT.(about 100RMB for taxi fee)

4.Curricular Arrangement

A. Teaching Contents

Basic Chinese is mainly taught with oral conversation, intensive reading, listening and speaking, newspaper and magazine reading, phonetics, writing etc. In accordance with the actual level of the participants, culture of China and special lectures are to be given.

B. Aims and methods

Improvement in listening and actual speaking ability is the main aim, and consideration is given to reading and writing as well. Classroom instruction will be combined with lots of conversation practice through visiting and sightseeing, in formal discussion or seeing films and other art performances.

C. Time Table

From Monday to Friday classroom instruction will be given before noon; every afternoon will be time for individual study or other activities. To meet the requirements of the participants, there will be Taijiquan, calligraphy, painting, recreational and sports activities etc.

D. HSK training course

Because of the requirements of the participants who want to take HSK(Test for Chinese Level), there will hold a training course for about 2 months beforethe test.

E. Class Division

Those who are to study more than a semester will be enrolled in March, September every year, while students in short-term course (within 5 weeks) are to be enrolled in January and July every year. An examination will be given to the applicants after their arrival and the division of classes will be made according to their Chinese level.

These classes will be ABC course, elementary course, intermediate course or advanced course. There will not be more than 12 students in each class. We will hold individual course in case there come 10 more students with approximately the same Chinese level during the school day. As to their timetable, we shall discuss it on some other occasion.

5.School Opening

1st term: School opens on September 1st and ends on December 31st.

2nd term: School opens on March 1st and ends on June 30th.

6.Board, Lodging and Medical Expense

A. Boarding houses are provided to foreign participants under a reasonable cost. But they won’t be able to enjoy the housing continuously as soon as the course ends. Rooms for couples are not provided.

Apartment house for student:

2-bedroom apartment with separate toilet (shower bathtub), color TV, refrigerator, air conditioner, telephone and Internet outlet. It may share by 2 persons or occupied by one only. Features: hot-water supplied all day and free for internet at present.

B. Meals

There are a lot of dining rooms for students.

Medical Treatment

Students may be treated either in the school hospital or whatever hospital they like, but at their own expenses.

7.Tuition Fees

A. Long-term student’s fee

(1)Signing-up registration fee: US 50$

(2)Tuition: US 1000 $One term

B. Short-term student’s fee

(1)Signing-up registration fee: US 30$

(2)Tuition: US 230 $for 2 weeks,

US 280 $for 3 weeks,

US 330 $for 4 weeks

Additional fee US 70 is to be paid per week for participants studying more than 4 weeks.


C. Lodging Fee

US 12-15 are paid for every room per day.

(1) Long-term student’s fee: single room: US 10$/day double room: US 5$/bed/day

(2) Short term student’s fee single room: US 15$/day double room: US 6$/bed/day

D. Students should pay all the fees within 3 days after their arrival. Non-refundable if the participants quit school when the course is in progress. Neither is the tuition to be deducted for those coming late. According to the school regulations, those who didn’t pay the fees on time should pay delayed payment.

E. When collecting fees, the school is to convert

F. Different currency into Renminbe yuan in accordance with the foreign exchange marker quotation of National Bank of China on the date of payment.

8.Board, Tour and other Activities

In order to cooperate with the teachers in their teaching, the school will organize students to pay a visit to the places of interests in Beijing free of charge. On holiday’s tours to outer suburbs, other cities or provinces will be organized the students are to take part in them voluntarily, but at their own expenses. During vacation or at the end of the term, those willing to travel at their own expenses (sufficient in number, 10 persons) may apply to the school, then tours will be organized according to their requirements.

9.Departure

All participants are required to leave within 10 days after the course is completed. They should go through the departure procedure including squaring accounts, returning things borrowed from the school. Cars to airport will be provided for those who leave China, but the fare has to be paid.

北京邮电大学创建于一九五五年,是新中国诞生后成立的第一所邮电高等学府,是全国重点大学。北京邮电大学座落在首都──北京海淀区三环路内,距离市中心很近。校园面临中国元代元大都遗址土城公园与秀丽的小月河风景区,环境优美,交通便捷。

为加强中外文化交流,增进中外人民之间的了解和友谊,为满足各国朋友来华学习汉语的愿望和要求,北京邮电大学从一九八六年开始举办长、短期汉语学习班,先后接收了日本、美国、加拿大、法国、瑞典、英国、韩国、西班牙、丹麦、俄罗斯等十多个国家的留学生来我校学习汉语,培养了大批汉语人材。欢迎各国朋友来北京邮电大学学习汉语。

一、 申请条件

凡对汉语及汉语课程感兴趣的各届人士,年龄在六十五岁以下,身体健康,愿意遵守中华人民共和国的法律、法规和北京邮电大学的规章制度,均可申请。

二、 申请办法

1. 可采取团体报名申请或委托办班的方式,也可个人来信来函联系申请。

2. 申请者须仔细填写《北京邮电大学汉语进修生入学申请表》并贴好照片和签字的担保书。申请秋季入学者,须在七月三十日前;申请春季入学者,须在一月二十日前将《北京邮电大学汉语进修入学申请表》及担保书寄回我中心。经我中心审核合格即给答复,并寄去《北京邮电大学录取通知书》及中华人民共和国中国教育部发给的《JW202表》和《外国人体格检查表》及《北京邮电大学地理位置图》。

3. 申请者可持《北京邮电大学录取通知书》及《JW202表》和《外国人体格检查表》到中国驻当地使(领)馆办理来华学习(X)签证或(F)签证。(请注意:学习半年以上的学生一定要办理“X”签证。)

4. 学习半年以上的学生须持《外国人体格检查表》到医院检查身体(请注意:来华时一定要带《外国人体格检查表》原件,检查艾滋病、梅毒血液化验单原件、心电图原件)。

三、 报到

按《录取通知书》上规定的时间持《JW202表》、《录取通知书》和《外国人体格检查表》到北京邮电大学国际汉语培训中心报到。

1. 报到时须交验护照签证,并交纳学费和住宿费,办理注册手续。

2. 学生到达北京机场时,可持《北京邮电大学地理位置图》出示给出租车司机,即可到达我校(车费约100元人民币)。有特殊情况不能按时到校报到时,须提前向我中心申请,否则逾期不到,将按自动取消入学资格处理。

四、 教学安排

1. 教学内容:主要教授基础汉语。课程设置有口语、精读、听力、阅读、语音、写作等,根据学生实际情况,还可适当开设中国文化课和有关专题讲座。

2. 目的和方法:以提高学生听、说汉语的实际水平为主要目的、兼顾阅读和写作,采取课堂讲授和大量会话练习相结合的方法。配合教学组织参观、游览、座谈等活动,并组织学生观看电影和文艺演出。

3. 授课时间:每星期一至星期五上午上课。下午为自习或中国文化特色课学习。学校将根据学生的要求安排太极拳、书法、绘画等文化活动。

4. 为满足留学生参加“HSK”(汉语水平考试)的需要,在每年“HSK”考试前,学校将举办大约两个月的“HSK”(汉语水平考试)辅导班。

5. 分班:注册学习一学期以上的学生,每年三月、九月入学,注册学习五周以下的短期学生一般在每年一月、七月入学。入学后,经任课教师测试后,按学生的汉语水平分配在不同程度的入门班、初级班、中级班或高级班,每班十二人左右。其它时间如果学生人数在十人以上,汉语水平相当,也可单独开班,学习时间可另行商定。

五、 开学时间

第一学期:九月一日开学,十二月三十一日结束。

第二学期:三月一日开学,六月三十日结束。

六、 住宿、膳食及医疗

住宿:凡在我校学习的外国留学生均可提供留学生宿舍,住宿费优惠。学习结束后不再提供住宿优惠。

留学生公寓:两人标准间,有单独的卫生间,淋浴、盆浴、空调、电视、电冰箱、电话和INTERNET接口等设备, 特色——全天候24小时提供热水,目前免费上网。

膳食:留学生楼内设有外事餐厅,留学生可以自己购买饭票用餐,也可以集体包伙。或者申请办理校内的饭卡,持卡在校内各餐厅用餐。

医疗:留学生生病可以在学校医院或校外医院就医,费用自理。

七、费用

学费
长期留学生费用 报名和注册费:50美元

学费:一学期1000美元

   两学期2000美元

寒、暑假短期留学生费用

报名和注册费:30美元

学费:两周230美元,三周280美元,四周330美元,四周以上每周加收70美元。


住宿费

长期生(三个月以上):

单人间:10.00美金/间·天

双人间: 5.00美金/床位·天

短期生(三个月以下):

单人间:15.00美金/间·天

双人间: 6.00美金/床位·天

注:

1.电话费自理,冰箱收费单人间:2.00元人民币/天,双人间1.00元/天。

2.留学生应在到校后三天内按时交纳各项费用。中途退学者,学费不退;迟到者,学费不减。不按时交费者,根据学校规定,应交滞纳金。

3.留学生交费时,学校将按国家银行当日外汇牌价核收人民币。

八、 旅游及活动安排

为配合教学,学校将组织学生参观游览北京市内名胜古迹;节假日学校将组织留学生赴远郊或外省市旅游,留学生自愿报名参加,费用自理。放假期间或学习结束后,希望自费旅行的留学生,如有十人,可向学校提出申请,我中心将负责根据留学生的要求组织旅行。

九、 离校

学生应在学习结束后十天内离校,离校前应办理离校手续,结清各项费用,归还借用物品,学校可安排车辆送至机场,车费自理。
