| Campus of Beijing University of Science and Technology in Guanzhuang
|
The campus is in Guanzhuang in the east of Chaoyang District of Beijing, covering 87 mu or around 14.5 acres with 61,571 square meters of floor space, of which 1,492 square meters of usable floor space for the library and 10,842 square meters for classrooms. There are more than 20 practical teaching sites of campus network, computer room, language lab, audio-visual room, financial accounting simulation, management simulation, marketing, investment analysis and automation science. In addition, the school has established many off-campus bases in Ito Yokado, NEC, Hitachi Huasun and some other Japanese enterprises for the student to do field work. For a long period of time, centering on the quality of teaching, the campus spares no efforts to deepen teaching reform and management system with the aim to improve the comprehensive quality and innovative ability of students. As a result, great progress has been made in all respects. For example, new courses and content have been added and improved; the relation between theory and practice is well dealt with and different courses for different diplomas are closely connected. Marketing and information management are respectively listed by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal Commission of Education as two pilot majors of teaching reform. Cadre training and further education are developed with metallurgic industry as focus and engineering technology and business administration as main content. In 2004, the campus cooperated with China Iron and Steel Association, China Enterprise Confederation in conjunction with China Enterprise Directors Association and successfully launched the first session of training class for career managers of steel industry. In this session of training class, 48 directors and managers of factories and enterprises from 11 large steel enterprises received proper training. The campus has also signed contracts with Motorola University and Double Prestige Satellite Communication Company to put distance training of modern management into practice. Besides, the campus stresses and continuously tries to develop international exchanges and cooperation, and has established frequent exchange relations with University of Sunderland of the UK, Kyoto Sangyo University of Japan and so forth. The campus has been unceasingly stressing the importance of talent invitation, development and improvement so as to improve the teaching team, teachers’ education level and their vocational level. Currently, there is a teaching staff of 230, of whom 89 are vocational teachers, 4 are professors and 32 associate professors. Besides, there are some teachers form Japan and the U.K employed for foreign language studies. To achieve sustainable development, the whole faculty of the campus will work together to seize opportunities and make new progress in all respect under the guidance of the strategic planning of the University so as to make the campus a first-class place of schooling with strict management, high quality, well equipped supporting facilities and pleasant environment in the near future. |
The former Beijing Institute of Metallurgy Management merged into Beijing University of Science and Technology in September of 1998 and thus founded the Campus of Beijing University of Science and Technology in Guanzhuang. It is new additional teaching resources to Beijing University of Science and Technology after the reform of the institutions of higher learning. The new campus consists of Vocational College of Beijing University of Science and Technology, Adult Education College of Beijing University of Science and Technology, Sino-Japanese Economic and Technical College of Beijing University of Science and Technology, Distance Education College of Beijing University of Science and Technology and Training Center of Beijing University of Science and Technology with Economic Management Department, Information Engineering Department, Foreign Studies Department and Department of Humanities and Law, which take up the tasks of adult credential education, distance education, further education and collaborative education with foreign countries, totaling 36 majors for associate degrees and bachelor degrees. It is a First-Class School of Higher Education for Adults and one of the first group of schools for business administration training approved by the former State Economic and Trade Commission with 34 correspondence stations and 26 off-campus distance education centers over the country.  |
