Different Types of Programs
- Short-term Chinese Language Course
This course is negotiable.
2. Long-term Chinese Language Course
This course lasts half a year, one year, or 2 years. There are two semesters each year. The spring semester starts in February and the autumn semester in September. Application for the spring semester should be made between October 1 in the previous year and January 30. Application for the autumn semester should be made between March 1 and July 30. All classes are quite small.
3. Undergraduate Program (only for undergraduate major in Chinese language and literature).
This program starts in September each year and lasts four years with 19 weeks each semester. Application should be made between March 1 and July 30.
4. Non-degree programs
The programs include: Chinese teacher training, Chinese cultural studies, Chinese summer camp, Chaozhou cookery training course. Students only need to apply two months beforehand. The duration of the course can be arranged through discussion.
5. Summer (winter) Camps
The courses can be arranged through discussion. Application should be made between May 1 to May 30 and November 1 to November 30.
Requirements for Application
For long-term course:
Qualified applicants should be foreign students who have finished junior middle school. The most recent diploma should be provided.
For short-term course:
Any foreign students who wish to learn Chinese aged from 18 to 59 are welcome to HanshanNormalUniversity.
For undergraduate program:
Qualified applicants should be foreign students who have finished high school. The most recent diploma with the academic transcript and a copy of the HSK score (Grade C above at the elementary level) should be provided.
For undergraduate program ( non-degree):
Applicants should be foreign students who have graduated from a high school. The most recent diploma should be provided.
For summer (winter) camp:
Applicants should be foreign students who have finished junior middle school or high school. The certificate from the current school should be provided.
How to Apply
1. Any foreign school, community or individual can directly contact our Foreign Affairs Office ( FAO) for registration two months ahead of time, requiring for the application form and admission policy or download them from HanshanNormalUniversity website : www.hstc.edu.cn
2. Submit to the FAO the following documents: the completed application form, a copy of the first page of your passport and a copy of your most recent diploma. Meanwhile, applicants should remit the application fee (RMB 300 yuan) to the following bank account:

3. Admitted applicants will receive a letter of acceptance and JW 202 form (for visa application) that can be used as evidence for the local Chinese consulate or Embassy to process student visas (X or F visa) for study in China 4 weeks before registration.
4. Admitted applicants need to take the letter of acceptance and the JW 202 form with them when they come to register in the FAO. If they are unable to register on time, they should contact the FAO for further arrangements.

Teaching Arrangement and Certificate Offered
1. Chinese language course:
(1) Short-term Chinese language elementary class: aiming to train students from starting point to grasp basic Chinese, and possess the ability of preliminary conversation and communication, and have teaching contents of aural comprehension, spoken Chinese, reading and writing, composition. Time of this course is negotiable.
(2) Long-term Chinese language intermediate class: 0.5—2 years (certificate) , aiming to strengthen ability to aural comprehension and speaking , possess basic Chinese culture knowledge, possess relatively strong Chinese expression and ability of communication.
2. Chinese language and culture speciality: 4 years (diploma/ degree), offering modern Chinese, ancient Chinese, basic writing, literature introduction, modern Chinese literature, China ancient literature, China contemporary literature, and comparative literature, etc.
3. Teachers training course: 1—2 months (certificate), offering Chinese basic knowledge, spoken Chinese practice teaching, composition teaching methodology, art of classroom teaching, opportunities to view and emulate Chinese teacher’s teaching, cultural investigation.
4. Chinese cultural studies: 0.5—2 months (certificate), offering spoken Chinese, Chinese cultural outline, appreciation of Chinese calligraphy and painting, cultural investigation, appreciation of ceramics craft, etc.
5. Chaozhou cookery training course: 0.5—3 months (certificate), offering schools and introduction of Chinese flavor, Chaozhou cookery, Chaozhou food carving skill, etc.
6. Summer (winter) camp: 2—3 weeks, offering Chinese, appreciation of Chinese calligraphy and painting, cultural investigation, have a taste of the unique local customs of ChaozhouCity.
7. During the duration of study, foreign students will be arranged to visit the scenic spots and historical sites and to have a taste of the unique local customs and flavor in “ChinesePorcelainTown”, ChaozhouCity.
Note: The length of the undergraduate programme is 4 years, a bachelor’s degree will be awarded. To those courses vary from 1 month to 3 years, a certificate will be issued by the school.
Costs
1. Tuition Fee
- Long-term Chinese language course ----- RMB 8000 yuan each semester / per person
- Short-term Chinese language course ----- RMB 1600 yuan each month / per person. You will have to pay another RMB 400 yuan if you wish to study one more week here on campus. If by group, you can get a special favor.
- Undergraduate program ----- RMB 16000 yuan each school year/per person.
- Chinese teacher training & Chinese cultural studies ----- RMB 2400 yuan each month/ per person.
- Chaozhou cookery training course-----RMB 2400 yuan each month/ per person.
- Summer (winter) camp-----RMB 800 yuan each week/ per person.
2. Accommodation Fee
The school provides foreign students with good living conditions with preferential price.
(1) Fee for living in foreign student’s dorm
Double Room: rmb 6000 yuan/ per school year/ per person (Excluding water, electricity, telephone, Internet fee).
Single Room: rmb 7000 yuan / per school year / per person ( Excluding water, electricity, telephone, Internet fee).
Each room has a bathroom, water heater, air-conditioner, Internet, washing machine, telephone.
(2) Fee for living in Chinese student’s dorm
Four-bedded Room: rmb 3000 yuan/ per school year/ per person ( Excluding water, electricity, telephone, Internet fee).
Each room has a bathroom, shower (by solar energy), electricity fan, washing machine, telephone, Internet.
(3) Fee for living in Foreign Expert’ s Apartment
Two-bedroom-apartment: rmb 9000 yuan/ per school year/ per person(Excluding water, electricity, gas, telephone, Internet fee ).
Three-bedroom-apartment: rmb 6000 yuan/ per school year/ per person (Excluding water, electricity, gas, telephone, Internet fee ).
Besides the bedrooms,each apartment has a sitting room, a kitchen and a shower/toilet, an air-conditioner, a telephone a hot water heater, a washing machine, a refrigerator, a color TV set, a computer and access to Internet and a gas stove.

4. Food
Students can have meals either at canteens on campus or at restaurants beside the campus.
5. Fee of textbooks and teaching materials is paid according to the actual charge, medical fee, expenses of traveling, visiting and cultural investigation (not belong to teaching plan) are paid by the students themselves.
Facilities
The university has four campuses where there is a clinic, several supermarkets, stores, ATM of China Construction Bank Chaozhou Branch, bookstores, IP supermarkets, etc & several student canteens. There is also post office, western-style restaurants and Chinese restaurants. Foreign students can decide where to have meals at their wills. For those sport fans, you can visit courts for basketball, football, volleyball, and swim in the swimming pool, tennis and gyms for badminton, table tennis and body-fitting.
How to Get to Hanshan Normal University
1. If you come to Chaozhou via Guangzhou, you can take a train at Guangzhou Eastern Railway Station or take a through bus at Tianhe Passenger Transport Bus Station or at Gungdong General Passenger Transport Bus Station. If you come to Chaozhou via Shantou, you can take a coach or a taxi at the airport. It takes you about 35 minutes to chaozhou.
2. If you come to Chaozhou via Hongkong and Shenzhen, you can take a train at Shenzhen Railway Station or take a through bus at Luohu General Bus Station to Chaozhou.
