1. Starting date:
Every teacher is required to report to FAO of Peizheng by September 1. If you come to Guangzhou directly you have to get your own tourist visa. If you arrive in Hongkong and stay in the college’s apartments, we can help you with your tourist visa. The college will help you with your multiple-entry work visa and residence permit after you arrive on campus.
2. General information about the college:
We are glad you are interested in teaching in China. We’d like to introduce our college and hope you will decide to teach here. If any of your qualified friends or relatives intends to teach in China, they are also welcome to join our college.
Our college lies in the Southern part of China, in the City of Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province. It's about a 25 minutes flight or 3 hour bus ride from Hong Kong. So far, the college is 13 years old, and has developed rapidly due to the national education system reform. The college was authorized to grant a four-year bachelor’s degree in March 2005. According to the college’s long-term plan, by 2010 the student population will be around 15,000 and the four-year students will account for about 80%. Guangdong Peizheng College has become one of the best private colleges in China. We have a big campus, a large community of foreign teachers, and the modern apartments designed specially for Westerners. We are confident you will be satisfied with both the facilities and the efficient administration. You will never forget this “one time but lifelong” experience at our college.
Teachers work under contract that runs from September 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. The instructors are paid monthly for these ten months. According to the contract, the required teaching workload is 20 classroom teaching periods each week plus one 90-minute English Corner per week. Each period is 45 minutes long.
The pay is in RMB - the money used in China. One U.S. dollar is equivalent to about 8 RMB. The monthly salary is from 4900 Yuan to 6800 Yuan (RMB) ---according to your qualifications, education, and your teaching or working experience. In addition to the regular pay, each teacher gets an allowance of 500 RMB for food and 500 RMB for utilities (gas, electricity, water and telephone). If a teacher renews the contract for four consecutive years, there is a 10% increase of the basic salary of the current year. All teachers can exchange their salary for USD at a fair rate.
The salary is generous by Chinese standards and teachers can save, or travel in China or Asia. The college also provides teachers with two expense paid trips in Guangdong province. This is a welcome benefit.
We have several canteens on campus. Most students and Chinese teachers eat there. There are also several local restaurants. Teachers can cook at home. Basic cooking utensils are provided with the housing. Fresh meats, vegetables and fruits are available in the farmers’ market in the village nearby.
Teachers have access to the Internet on campus and connections in the apartments, and it's free! Free conversational Mandarin classes are available. Chinese classes are offered at three levels. You can choose the one appropriate for you. Each level has more than three hours per week.
3. General information about house choices:
There are various housing choices available. The couples can live together, or single people can have an individual apartment. There are three locations on campus for foreign teachers. All the apartments are furnished with furniture and appliances. You are supplied with a table, chairs, desk, bed and wardrobe. Appliances include a refrigerator, microwave oven, stove burners (gas), air conditioner/heater and basic cooking utensils.
Dr. Ho, the vice-chairman of our college board, has several apartments in Hong Kong that are available for teachers free of charge. This is a clean and convenient place to stay if you want to visit Hong Kong for a weekend or a holiday.
The school will reimburse a round trip economy air ticket to Hong Kong or Guangzhou up to a limit of 8200 RMB. The school will also be responsible for transportation from Hong Kong or Guangzhou to the college.
There is a simple clinic at our college. The teachers can get routine medical treatment there. Local hospitals are modern and available for other medical needs.
The college will bear the cost of a multiple entry Z(working) visa. However, China will not issue a work visa to any teacher without a bachelor's degree.
