Introduction


The South China University of Tropical Agriculture (SCUTA) owes its origin to South China College of Tropical Crops founded in 1958 and has developed into a multi-disciplinary comprehensive university.

SCUTA, headquartered at the charming west part of Hainan, covers 200 ha of land at campus and owns 40,000 ha of land for trials and experiments. SCUTA Haikou Campus covers 34 ha. The library holds a collection of about 0.7 million volumes of books and periodicals. There are 1,536 research and teaching staff members including sous400 at professor level and more than 600 at lecturer’s level.

SCUTA consists of 12 colleges: College of Agronomy, College of Horticulture, College of Environment and Plant Protection, College of Technology, College of Mechanical Electric and Information Engineering, College of Economics and Management, College of Humanities and Laws, College of Fundamental Sciences, College of Continued Education, College of Applied Science and Technology, College of Graduates and InternationalCollege. SCUTA has 7 doctorate programs, 1 postdoctorate program, 31 Master’s degree programs and 32 bachelor programs and 17 polytechnic programs as well as 1 postdoctorate mobile station. The number of students has been increasing rapidly for the past few years, and more than 12,000 students are now on campus with an annual enrollment of over 3,000 students. SCUTA has been the home of more than 20,000 graduates and 100,000 short-term course students over the past 40 years. Some elite graduates such as Prof. Chen Zhangliang, President of China Agricultural University, and Prof. Zheng Xiaobo, President of Nanjing Agricultural University, received their bachelor training from SCUTA.

SCUTA is united with ChineseAcademy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS). CATAS consists of 5 non-profit research institutes, 4 profit research institutes, 1 national key laboratory, 2 ministerial key laboratories, 5 ministerial key test centres and an analytical and test centre. SCUTA/CATAS has conducted more than 200 research projects every year and have acquired in the last 40 years over 880 achievements, of which more than 270 were awarded various prizes at the state, ministerial and provincial levels. Some of the achievements are among the world level.

SCUTA/CATAS takes active initiatives in international cooperation in research and development and has established academic exchanges and cooperation with more than 20 countries and regions. It has hosted several international symposia or workshops and annual meetings. It has also forged a close long-term collaborative relationship with other universities such as University of Hawaii, KasetsartUniversity, etc.

To qualify for a teaching position one must meet the following requirements:

* Be a native English speaker

* Have a Bachelor's or equivalent from an accredited college/university

* Be able to give 1 year commitment

* Have experience in teaching ESL and/or TEFL (Certification preferred, but not required)

Documents required

  • An application letter(s)
  • Copy of your resume(s)
  • Copy of your degree or teacher’s certification (or TEFL and ESL)

After preliminary acceptance, more documents will be required:

  • Physical Examination Record For Foreigners (Obtain this form from the Chinese Embassy or any Consulate in your country. Using this form, make a medial examination in your local hospital. Typically this exam should include both the signature of the doctor and stamp from the hospital.)
  • Recommendation letters from your boss, or a professor (or associate professor) who taught you or knows you well.
  • A copy of your passport(s)
  • A copy of your marriage certificate if your spouse is with you

After we receive all of these documents we will apply for a Work Permit and a Letter of Invitation for you from our government and send them to you. When you receive the Work Permit and Letter of Invitation, you will apply for a ‘Z’ (means professional) from our Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your country. This normally takes at least two weeks. When you get a ‘Z’ visa, you can fly to China at the appropriate time.

This process takes time, both for you to gather all necessary documents, as well as to have it sent to China for processing, and appropriate invitation letters returned to you so that you can apply for your visa to enter into China.
