A Brief Introduction of Hebei Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering

Hebei Institute of Architecture & civil Engineering is an engineering institute of Hebei Province. It has a long history with modern facilities, rich teacher resources and advanced specialty curriculums. It is one of the universities and colleges that are authorized by the State Council to grant bachelor degrees.

The institute is situated in Zhangjiakou, a famous city outside the Great Wall, the campus surroundings is pleasant, the buildings are full of modern color, which is an ideal place for the large number of students to seek knowledge and pursue studies.

The institute covers an area of 162,400 square meters and the building area is more than 90,000 square meters. The library covers a floor space of 3,541 square meters, which has a collection of 220,000 books and subscribes to 1,292 kinds of national and international periodicals. The library has completely carried out computer management and connected with the Internet. The institute has nine teaching departments namely Department of Architecture, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Urban Construction, Department of Machinery, and Electricity, Department of Computer, Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Engineering Management, Department of Basic Sciences, Department of Social Sciences and Department of Physical Education. In adult Education, Computer Center, Audio-Visual Education Program Center and the Institute of Survey and Design as well as more than 10 school-run industries. The institute offers eight four-year undergraduate specialties Architecture, Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Architecture Environment and Equipment Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, Machine Design & Manufacture and its Automation, Electrical Engineering and its Automation, Computer Science and Technology and English Language and English Literature.

The institute has 23 teaching and research offices, 12 laboratories and experiment centers, 17 bases and one factory for training students in practical skills, which can satisfactorily fulfill all tasks of class teaching and practicality teaching so that the students' comprehensive abilities and all-round qualities can be developed and improved. There are now 2,315 students and 596 teaching staff, including 280 professional teachers at the institute. It basically forms a rational structure, higher level and relatively steady teaching and scientific research staff, which has over 100 postgraduates with master degrees, doctoral and postdoctoral degrees. In order to improve the students' English level, the institute engaged foreign teachers to teach English for many years. The institute has developed more than 10,000 graduates and most of them have become the backbone of the leadership and technology on the front of urban and rural construction. With the rapid development of our economic situation, building industry has become an important one, therefore, the society and market have a sharp growing demand for the graduates on very specialty from Hebei Institute of Architectural and Civil Engineering always falls short of demand. Since 1996, on the employment market for universities and colleges graduates of our province, the rate of signing contracts of our graduates is in the first place among the undergraduate colleges in our province, and becomes one of the highest graduates employment rate of undergraduate colleges in our province. The graduates are well accepted by every employing unit either inside the province or outside. The institute has provided a large number of excellent graduates for many professions such as building enterprises, design branches, house agent, machinery, power industry in our province and its surrounding areas. Besides, it has provided many talents for other provinces and cities such as Beijng, Tianjin etc.

Hebei Institute of Architectural and Civil Engineering is an important base for training talents. It's also a knowledge concentrated area of advanced science and technology development. There are 2,230 research papers and over 268 academic monographs have been published. While there are more than 80 scientific research achievements have been awarded a prize, over 101 research topics have been listed as scientific and technical plan by the city ministry, the province and the state. 25 scientific research achievements have been tested and appraised by the Province and the Ministry. 36 items have gained the patent right in which 29 items have been turned into productive force and created remarkable benefits. Some of the items have reached the international level. The institute gears the development of Adult Education to meet the needs of our society, and have made extraordinary achievements as it has trained nearly 2,000 members for building industry. Now it establishes 7 three-year correspondence specialties and enrolls the students to have a second record. To a large degree, it fills up the social needs for the building talents.
