Located on the south bank of the famous White River in famous historical and cultural city---Nanyang in China, Nanyang Institute of Technology (NIT) enjoys a really scenic and tasteful environment, pleasant weather and luxuriant vegetation. NIT was established in 1987, an institute of higher education oriented towards industrial technology and applied arts. NIT is the only comprehensive institute on cultivating professional talents in Southwest of Henan Province.

Now it boasts 11 departments, namely, Constructing Engineering, Biological and Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Machinery Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Business Administration, Humanities and Social Science, Foreign Languages, Art Design, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology, and Medical Science Department. Besides, NIT has one Mathematics and Physics Sector, one Adult Education School and one five-year Junior College Education Sector, and it offers 36 disciplines for college and junior college education.

There are over 600 teaching and administration staff among whom there are 450 full-time teachers. The current number of full-time students that have enrolled reaches 8,600. NIT covers an area of 1,100 mu with a building area of 300,000 square meters and owns fixed assets of 220 million yuan and experiment equipments of 40 million yuan. In 1997, NIT took initiative of establishing a campus broad band computer network that linked 3,000 computers to the Internet. In the field of informative construction with computer network, NIT has been developing more quickly than its counterparts. With such advanced equipments as specialized laboratory, full function multi-media teaching aid facility and the library with a stock volume of 700,000 books, NIT has an excellent environment for education.

NIT has also made great progress in its international cooperation and exchanges. In 1996, NIT established a friendly and cooperative relationship with Japanese Daita Company Ltd and received a total donation of 36 million Yen as "NIT Zhong ru kui yi Scholarship fund" and as the financial support of the establishment of "Nanyang Sino-Japan Culture Exchange Center" and "International Exchange Center". In 1998, NIT collaborated with IOWA State University to launch the Sino-US cooperative project of Sustainable Development in Henan(SDH) on cooperation. During the fulfillment in Nanyang, both sides signed the agreement and established "Nanyang Pollution and Waste Reduce Service Center" (PWRSC). In September of 2000,NIT signed the cooperative education agreement with Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, conducting "1+3" & "2+2" connecting cooperation undergraduate education.

Nanyang Institute of Technology is qualified to recruit foreign teachers by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs and this has begun in the early 1990s. Foreign teachers will be engaged in teaching for Foreign Languages Department and other department as well. We sincerely welcome all scholars and experts at home and abroad to NIT.
