The Huanghe College of Science and Technology (HCST) is a four-year college approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Located in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, a modernized city of commerce and trade, it covers an area of 600 mu with a building area of 310,00 square meters. Green space takes up 40 percent of the campus area. There are 12 schools: Information Engineering, Engineering, Business and Trade, Journalism and Mass Media, Music, Industrial Arts, Medicine, Physical Culture, Foreign Languages, Chinese Language for Foreign Students, Nationalities, and International Studies. There are 41 specialties, among which 7 are first-grade disciplines, making up of 7/11 of the nation first-grade ones. The college is a comprehensive and open college with a staff of 1,500 and an enrollment of over 17,000 students of over 40 ethnic groups form more than 30 provinces and cities.

“ Oriental Star ”---Hu Dabai

Professor Hu Dabai, President of the college, is an expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council. As one of the “Ten Outstanding Women of China” in the third national citation, Hu Jintao, then Vice-Chair and now General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC cordially met her. She has been a deputy to the National People's Congress, the People's Congress of Henan Province, and the 9 th Party Representatives' Congress of National Universities and Colleges. She was citied a “ Model Worker” and “ Exemplary Party Member” of Henan Province. Her advanced concept and excellent achievements have drawn great attention and been reported by such important media as the Xinhua News Agency, the People's Daily, the Guangming Daily, China's Education, the Chinese W omen's Newspaper, the Chinese Youth Newspaper, the Yangcheng Evening Paper, the Magazine of Liaowang, the Chinese Education TV Station and some special programs such as “ Oriental Sons” and “ Half of the Sky” of the CCTV.

Teaching Facilities

With many high buildings, beautiful flowers and green tress, an atmosphere of modernization fills every corner of the college. 5 00 classrooms are equipped with closed circuit teaching systems. There are 30 multi-medium classrooms, 21 languages labs and 40 computer labs. The library has a collection of over 570,000 books and 10,000 E-magazines with multi-medium teaching systems, an English radio station and a computer network center. The campus net is linked with the wide band network (ADSL) and the Education and Scientific Research Network, realizing information and distant teaching system. The student apartments are equipped with telephones, electric fans, heating, bathrooms and Internet link. The International Exchange Center is as good as a four-star hotel. The Library and Information Building is the largest and most advanced among domestic colleges and universities. The multi-function gymnasium can hold 5,000 people. There are various sports courts, such as football field, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and ping-pang courts. All kinds of auxiliary special labs are equipped with advanced facilities. Logistic services, such as dinning halls, school clinics, post offices, saving banks, bathing centers, and department stores, make life convenient and comfortable.

A Host of Celebrated Teachers

The college pays great attention to the building of teaching staff and has formed a strong contingent of teachers which consists of full-time and part-time teachers, who are academically strong, morally lofty, experienced in teaching and selfless in dedication. There are 1024 teachers, of who 624 are full-time with 70 percent of them being professors and associate professors, including experts enjoying special allowance of the government, well-known scholars, returned doctors and foreign professors, bring about a better academic atmosphere. International Exchange

The college pays great attention to international exchange and cooperation. 180 delegations from 36 countries, such as the U.S.A., the U.K., Japan, Canada, Australia, and 560 delegations from 30 domestic provinces and cities, have visited the college. Since 1995, HCST has established friendly relations with a number of foreign universities and signed agreement of cooperation with Tokyo Engineering Institute of Japan, Toronto International Institute of Canada, California University of the U.S.A., Northampton University of the U.K. and University of Windsor of Canada. Contract Terms of the Huanghe College of Science and Technology

Courses: There are oral English, writing, Western literature, Western culture, Intensive Reading, Introduction to Britain and U.S.A., phonetics and Business English which you can choose.
