Hunan University, situated at the foot of the picturesque Yuelu Hill and on the west bank of the rippling Xiang River in Changsha, Hunan, is one of the key universities directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education. It is a time-honored key university in China originating from the Yuelu Academy, one of the four most prestigious academies of the Song Dynasty, and is now included in the state 211 Project, and 985 Project for joint construction by the Ministry of Education and Hunan Province. It has now 32 colleges and departments and a graduate school offering.

Established in 1998 on the campus of Hunan University, Meiya College of International Studies is one of the second grade organizations of Hunan University. Running under the Sino-foreign bi-campus cooperative higher education module, Meiya College has reached agreements with six universities in four countries, including University of Regina and University of Concordia in Canada, International Hospitality and Tourism Training Institute in Switzerland, South Bank University and Middlesex University in UK and the University of Edith Cowen in Australia. Up to now, we are attracting undergraduates and postgraduates to come and study in the fields of literature, science, industry, management and economics under the joint education modules. Students shall take a part of their studies in Meiya College and then go to our foreign cooperation partner universities to finish the rest part of their studies and get a degree there.

In our college, more than a half of the courses are taught bilingually or all in English. The students will receive an intensive English training right after they enter the college. In order to help the students smoothly undertake the transition from domestic study to the major study in overseas universities, under the authority of University of Regina, in October 2001, an ESL Testing Center was established in Hunan University, which is responsible to test the applied language ability of the students who are going to further their study in Regina. The result of this ESL test is as recognizable as TOEFL scores in Regina University. The well-organized teaching in the students domestic study provides them with a perfect transition for their future study abroad.
