 Lixian No.1 Middle School

Lixian No.1 Middle School is a key and leading school in Hunan Province. It is located in Lixian, in the north of Changde ——an excellent scenic tourist city. Lixian Town lies on the Lishui River, which is among the four largest rivers in Hunan Province. Thus Lixian County got its name. On this magic land, Lixian covers an area of 500 square kilometers with more than 400 ancient cultural relics. The world-known ancient location of the town —Chengtoushan is the most venerable, best protected and most abundant of its kind in China; Bashidang, the ancient rice-planting site that provides precious documents for architecture also lies in here. Lixian is surrounded by many resorts —Zhangjiajie in the west, Yueyanglou in the east, and Taohuayuan in the south. It is quite convenient to visit these places and Three Gorges in the north. In Lixian, there are also many scenic spots: Tiangong Mountain Forest Park, Fairy Valley and other places of interest.
Lixian No1 Middle School was first set up in 1902. It is the place where Fanzhongyan, an outstanding poet in Song Dynasty (960-1279) once wrote poems. It is here that Shenxubang, Zhuzuoyan who are academicians with the Chinese Academy of Sciences once studied. This school is famous for its elegant environment, strict teaching, and education of high quality. Our school covers an area of 220,000m2, and the construction covers 75,000 m2. The number of our staff is 320, including 44 English teachers. There are about 5000 students. Our school makes full use of modern equipment. In the classroom, the campus network is available daily. Teachers are provided with portable computers. Our school puts great emphasis on English teaching. And we frequently communicate with outsiders. Many foreign guests have ever visited or given lectures in our school. Such as former foreign teacher Rachel Eley from Britain, Derren Web from Australia and scholars from New Zealand or America. Our school is qualified to engage foreign teachers. At one side of the school passage, you can see the English World, and the English Corner is just beside it. In addition, colorful English Speech Contests, English Parties, Summer Camp as well as other forms of activities are held every semester. Stimulated by the activities, the students are very interested in English study. In the past three years, dozens of graduates have been enrolled by Tsinghua university, Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, which are top universities in China. .
