(shy?ng>t?n>) or Siangtan , city (1994 est. pop. 490,100), E central
Hunan prov., China, on the Xiang River. Formerly an agricultural
distribution center, it is now industrialized. Products include textiles,
iron, steel, manganese ore, cement, and machine tools. The name sometimes
appears as Hsiang-t'an.

After construction for 50 years, Xiangtan city
has built up a modern transportation system formed with railway, highway
and waterway. Nowadays, the total mileage of the road of the city is over
2300 kms. The Xiangjiang River run through the city, from water way, the
freight can launch out by the Yangtze River. The national way No.107(from
Beijing to Shengzhen) and No.320(from Shanghai to Kunming) joined in
downtown area.The Jingguang railway(from Beijing to Guangzhou),
Xiangqian(Hunan to Guizhou) pass the city, also there are tour train from
Guangzhou to Shaoshan directly. From the downtown area, it will only take
30 minutes to drive to the Changsha Huanghua Airport
