Huaiyin High School was originally established in 1902, as "Jiangbei Daxuetang" (School of Jiangbei), which belonged to one of the four earliest well-run schools in the whole province.

During the past century, the faculty's consistent hard work has created a legacy of profound cultural and academic achievements which has made her one of the most famous high schools of the country.

In 1953, the school was chosen as one of the first fourteen key high schools supported by the provincial government. In 1990, the school qualified as one of the first key high schools of Jiangsu Province. In 2000, the school won the title of the National Model School of Jiangsu Province. The school has won tens of national and provincial awards such as the Advanced Unit of Jiangsu Province, the Model School of Jiangsu Province, the Advanced Unit of Teaching Training of Jiangsu Province, the Model School of Multimedia Education of Jiangsu Province. Huaiyin High School is fully accredited by the community.

Huaiyin High School is situated in two locations. One site is at 174# West Street, and the other is at No. 99 Jiefang East Road in the southeast of the city near the Developing Zone. The total area of the school is 239,760 square metres. The school has a beautiful campus with advanced facilities and wonderful teachers. Modern computer-assisted teaching centers have been set up in the school which has made teaching and studying more effective. There is an E-learning centre, a cable TV centre, a multimedia teaching system, a school net and an Internet educator platform to foster education online.

Nearly 5,000 students from 88 classes attend Huayin High School. The faculty consists of more than 300 teachers. Our distinguished faculty has 10 special grade teachers, more than 70 senior teachers, and 30 teachers have been awarded provincial and national prizes.

"All for the developments of the students" is the educational philosophy of the school. The goal of the school is to foster an atmosphere of creativity, enterprise, cooperation and communication among the teachers and students. The faculty and staff of Huaiyin High School believe that all students deserve a quality education. Therefore, teachers pay special attention to the learning styles, talents, and individual needs of students. During the course of study, teachers provide a stimulating environment to foster independent study and the harmonious development of each student. As a result, the majority of the students have been and will be of great use to society. Over 95% of Huaiyin High School graduates have the chance for further study in colleges and universities and more than 80% have been admitted into key national universities. In 2002, 31 students had the chance of going to study in Qinghua University or Beijing University, of whom 17 were admitted into the two famous universities. Li Rui, who got the first place in the provincial IT Competition , was chosen as a member of the National Olympic IT team of China.

The school has enhanced the curriculum reform which has developed various alternative subjects in which students are involved in nature preservation projects, community activities and the latest developments of science and technology. The recent goal is to build a national model school with an international perspective which promotes communication and cooperation with foreign counterparts. The school has planned to invite experts from English-speaking countries. In this case, the school will become more prosperous.
