Senior High School of Jiangsu Province (JSHSJ), located in Chengjiang
Road West, Jiangyin City, a land of wealth and prosperity in the lower
reach of the Yangtze River, was founded in 1738, formerly known as Jiyang
Academy. Since 1903, when a new education system from the West began
to be adopted, the school, renamed for several times, has experienced
many vicissitudes in its ninety-five years standing. And today JSHSJ
is ranked among the provincial key high schools, enjoying a good reputation
in the area around. Aiming at excellence, JSHSJ keeps to a strict principle
embodied from its motto Patriotic, Practical, Pure and Progressive.
It carries on not only elite education but also working out students
potentials of sincerity, kindness and good. For nearly one century,
JSHSJ has seen more than 23,000 graduates, large numbers out of whom
have now become experts, scholars and highly ranked  cadres
at all branches of our society. JSHSJ covers 113,390 square metres with
a floorage of 60,000 square metres. Architecturally the building complex
succeeds in integrating Chinese and Western techniques, reflecting an
elegant style. It has an environment fine and tidy, fresh and pleasant.
There are 74 classes with 4,000 students in the school
at time being. And it has 160 members strong teaching staff, comprised
of 60 special-graded teacher, senior teachers and 177 professional personnel
with medium-level titles. A phenomenal teacher group, high in quality
of teaching, with characteristics of proper age composition and perfect
subject proportions, has taken shape. In recent years the school has
been honored with lots of titles in a string. A Meritorious School for
Moral Education of Jiangsu Province, A Courtesy Unit of Wuxi City, A
Meritorious Unit for Education and Scientific Research of Wuxi City
and A Demonstration School for Modernized Education Project of Wuxi
City, this list goes on and on. In April 1998, it successfully passed
evaluation as one of the state-level demonstrative regular senior high
schools with a high standard. JSHSJ strives for its aim of education
in bringing up a new generation of students with remarkable abilities
of application, comprehension and innovation, we have witnessed its
initial results in education for all-round development. In recent years
the school's quality of education has constantly been improving. Its
subsidiary junior high school takes rank as the first in the annual
comprehensive evaluation among the city's  schools
of its kind. And in the last four years running, its ratio of student
admission to either regular colleges or junior colleges has been listed
well above that of the others in the city. Honors upon honors have been
won by the students of this school in all kinds of nation-wide contests.
JSHSJ also puts great emphasis on arts education with its own features.
Students have won numerous prizes in both national and provincial competitions,
and the school chorus team was once honored with the first prize for
National Chorus Competition of Schools. So far over 100 students talented
in music and fine arts have gained admissions to institutes for further
studying, including famous Conservatory of Chinese Music and China Academy
of Fine Arts. Hence JSHSJ is renowned as Distinguishing-featured School
of Jiangyin City. Various activities of education and scientific research
are being vigorously developed in JSHSJ, where a student-centred teaching
manner is particularly designed and applied by means of transforming
