Teach in Jiangsu, China
Welcome To .......... EF Wuxi school

Introduction

English First, Wuxi, China

Wuxi is a mini-Shanghai, currently developing fast with lots of new businesses and foreign investment. By Western standards, it's a large city though locals regard it as small.

Set between Shanghai and Nanjing, it's less crowded and more comfortable than the first, cleaner and easier to navigate than the second. It's prime position and good transport connections make it an ideal departure point for these more famous neighbouring places as well as to the garden cities of Suzhou and Hangzhou.

It's also a tourist destination in its own right. The old Grand Canal runs right through it with many subsidiary waterways adding a touch of local atmosphere to unexpected backstreets. Its large parks are renowned for their springtime blossoms especially the one on the banks of the famous Tai Hui lake. And then there's the largest Buddha in China . . .

Being a newly developing city there's everything here a displaced Westerner could want in terms of Western-style supermarkets and department stores. At the same time, there aren't that many foreign devils here yet, so the locals will still make you feel special.

The EF school in Wuxi has been opened for two years. It operates as a franchise business closely connected to the EF HQ in Shanghai. Quite small with half-a-dozen foreign teachers it provides an intimate, comfortable working environment: an ideal introduction to the fast changing land of China.
