Jiangxi Normal University (JXNU) is a comprehensive key university in Jiangxi Province offering courses in Liberal Arts, Natural Science, Foreign Languages, Music and Fine Arts, Physical Education, Technical Science, Economics, Law and Business Management.

JXNU's predecessor was National Chiang Kai-chek University founded in 1940. The name was changed to National Nanchang University in 1949 and Jiangxi Normal University in 1983.

JXNU is one of the first universities in Jiangxi entitled to confer both Bachelor's and Master's degrees. The university has enrolled graduate students in 33 programs relating to 122 fields of study and co-confers the doctorate degrees in 2 fields with other universities. The university is made up of 17 colleges, offers 37 fields of study, including 19 teacher-training specialties. A four-year schooling system for Bachelor's degree is practiced in the University. Some fields of study have enrolled foreign students. For the purpose of strengthening international education cooperation and interaction with the outside world, the university has established friendly relationships with a dozen universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Russia, Hungary, Japan, Hong Kong Special Administration Region and Taiwan Region.

JXNU has an enormous advantage in teaching and carrying out scientific research, and also has an excellent learning and studying environment. Of the staff, 118 are full professors and academic fellows, 365 associate professors and academic fellows, 434 lecturers and assistant academic fellows. Presently, JXNU has 32 Research Centers. There are over 10 thousands square meters of lab space. The equipment for teaching and research is valued over 3 million RMB Yuan. JXNU is the first in Jiangxi to win over the state 863 Research projects and quite a few of provincial key research projects and paralleled research projects. As a result it has achieved a great deal of success in science research work. The well-stored university library has a collection of more than 1.61 million volumes and more than 2700 kinds of domestic and overseas periodical. JXNU covers an area of 33 hectares. The buildings cover a total floor space of more than 350,000 square meters. JXNU also owns a series of sporting facilities, such as ground track field, ball gymnasium, a swimming-hall, Wu Shu gymnasium, and so on.

Travel Introduction

Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi province, it was called "a southern prosperous region" in ancient time, so it was named Nanchang . It had been also called Hongdu. Nanchang is one of the famous historical and cultural cities in China, now it is constructing the "Garden City". The main places of historic interest and scenic beauty are: one of "The three famous pavilions in Southern China" Prince Teng's Pavilion (Teng Wang Ge); Badashanren Memorial Hall; the site of the Bayi Uprising; Longevity Palace of Xishan Mountain; the Forest Park on Meiling Hills; and Wen Gang pen market.

Lu Shan Mountain lies in the south of Jiujiang city, Poyang Lake lies to the East. Yangzi River lies to the north. Lu Shan mountain was called "the first magnificent mountain in the world", lots of ancient poets and calligraphers including Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Yue Fei, Wen Tianxiang, Su Dongpo, Li Shizhen, Xu Xiake had visited it and devoted many famous works. There are more than three hundred temples and palaces and Lu Shan mountains is one of the centers of Buddhism and Taoism in China.

Dragon-Tiger Mountain lies in the south of Yingtan city, its total acreage is about 200 square kilometers. and it was the cradle of Taoism. From the first Taoist Zhang Daolin in Dong Han Dynasty (25-220 A.D.) there were 63 era Taoist have been there for 1900 years. In the Mountains most are Dan Xia physiognomy, scenes of the Luxi River is beautiful. The Graves constructed in Chun Qiu (770-476 B.C.) , Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.) in the cliffs near Xian Shui Yan are also another marvelous spectacle.

Jingdezhen is well known as "the Porcelain City" in the world. It boasts of a 2,000 year history of pottery and porcelain manufacture. Pottery started as early as the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.). And its porcelain industry began from Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.). A township was established here in the Dong Han Dynasty (25-220 A.D.), first named "Chang Nan", and renamed "Jingdezhen" in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1120). From Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) , it has been the center of porcelain manufacture in China. The porcelain products in Jingdezhen are well sculpted and of good quality, they also have a special style. The four typical specialties of Jindezhen porcelain, "as white as jade, as lustrous as mirror, as thin as paper and as resonant as a chime" There are many historic sites about porcelain in the city including Expo of Ancient Porcelain, Hu Tian Ancient Porcelain Kiln, Long Zhu Ge, and so on.
