Approved by the National Ministry of Education, City Institute, DUT was founded in March 2003. It's the first independent undergraduate institute in the Northeast of China, practicing a new type of management and operating systemwhich is run together by DUT and Dalian Song Yuan Group.

City Institute is located at the modern and vigorous Dalian Economy and Technology Development Area of the beautiful coastal city, Dalian, at the foot of the scenic spot: the GreatBlackMountain, with fresh air and convenient transportation. Its entire area is 900 Mu(600,000m2) with the building area of 200,000 square meters, which is surrounded by beautiful flowers and green trees. Moreover, our complete and advanced teaching equipment offers students a first-class studying and living condition.

DUT is in charge of City Institute's teaching and management. Based on DUT's abundant teaching staff, teaching resources and managing experiences, City Institute has established a team of full time teachers mainly, together with part-time teachers under a new operating system.

Fully taking the comprehensive teaching advantages of DUT, City Institute sets up the disciplines according to the requirements of social economical development. At present, there are 53 undergraduate majors infive different schools or departments and one basic courses teaching department, including School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, School of Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Art, , and Department of Journalism and Public Administration. Now we have 4,329 undergraduate students from all over the country. And the total number will reach 7500 in 2006. After graduation, students will be awarded the diploma of City Institute issued by our state, and those qualified students can be awarded their Bachelor's Degree by the Degree Committee of DUT.
