Established in 1959, Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine, situated in Xianyang, an ancient capital city which is famous for its galaxy of cultural and historical interest and scenic beauties, was one of the first colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in the northwest of China for fostering advanced medicine and pharmaceutical workers.

The University not only has formed a whole education system to train the advanced personnel of traditional Chinese medicine, including the education of undergraduate, graduate, adult, foreign and Hong Kong Macao Taiwan students, but also has a large scale, offering 15 postgraduate programs, 19 undergraduate programs, and 8 courses of professional training academic programs. It integrates education, medical service and scientific research into itself.

The University possesses two campuses-the South and the North, ten interdisciplinary schools, three academic departments, two institutes, an attached hospital where there are 500 beds, 15 teaching hospitals, a pharmaceutical factory and 8 bases. Its medical history museum is famous at home and abroad. More than 1500 teaching and administrative staff in a good proportion, 382 professors and associate professors (chief physicians and associate chief physicians), 416 lecturers (doctor-in-charge) in it, and there are over 6600 students studying at the college, 445 are postgraduates and the rest are undergraduates or students for professional training.

The Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges is a special institution of international communication. We are making great efforts to develop an extensive cooperation in the fields of Chinese herbal quality control, preparation technology and product research and manufacturing and the clinical therapeutic study on modern complicated and intractable problems, such as diabetes mellitus, tumors, hypertension and cardio-cerebral diseases, is another important field of extensive cooperation and exchange with other countries.

Institute of International Education is a professional institution orientated to international education of Chinese medicine in the University and has trained over 80 Chinese medical practitioners from Japan, South Korea, Israel and other regions of the world in the past 15 years. Now, there are nearly 50-odd overseas undergraduate students (five-year program) and postgraduate (three-year program) in this institute. In addition, the institute has received over 1000 experts from Germany, USA, Italy, Singapore, Japan, and other regions of the world to study and exchange academic ideas in traditional medicine, and so far, set up teaching and medical organization in Malaysia.
