The university has evolved into an open，multi-discipline，research-oriented university，having 7 major fields of studies incorporating engineering，science，liberal arts，management medicine，law and economics．The university now offers 5 Ph．D programs，22 Master’s Degree Specialties，47 specialties for Bachelor’s Degree Candidates．The university has following major specialties：pulp and paper making，materials，leather，food，chemical，mechanical，packaging，computer，electronic and electrical，environment，electronic information，applied chemistry，art，design，language，media，industry & commerce，marketing，administration，human resource，and pharmacy，etc，some of which are still holding the leading position in their fields of studies and research in China．At present，there are over 20，000 students，including full-time students，students in Continuing Education，as well as overseas students．And more than 1，800 faculty and staff members are working hard and conscientiously with them．Among the faculty there are over 400 with full-professorships and associate- professorships．
The university is authorized by the government to recruit international students and employ foreign professors and experts．Over the last 20 years，the university has held the friendly relationship with many overseas universities or institutions in USA，Canada，UK，Russia，Germany，Australia，Japan，etc． With the newly-built campus in Xi’an，the university covers an area of 120 hectares．The library has a collection of over 1 million books，1，200 kinds of journal in the language of Chinese，English，Japanese and Russian 100，000 electronic books and electronic journals in Chinese or in English．The library has established more than 10 network data retrieval systems including EI，CA． Following the university motto“Pioneering Excellence”，we are fully prepared to deepen our reform，keep pace with the world and meet the challenges with pioneering spirit，and strive to build herself into one of top-rate universities in China． welcome to study at our university

Shaanxi University of Science & Technology (SUST) was founded in Beijing in 1958 as Beijing Institute of Light Industry．It was the then first national institution of higher learning in the field of light industry in China．The institute was moved to Xianyang，Shaanxi Province in 1970 when it was renamed Northwest Institute of Light Industry．In 1977，the institute was approved as one of the 88 top universities by the State Council．In 2002，the institute obtained its present name： Shaanxi University of Science & Technology，after the approval of the Ministry of Education of China．
At present，the university comprises 13 colleges and 2 departments．They are College of Paper-making Engineering，College of Material Science and Engineering，College of Resource and Environment，College of Life Science and Engineering，College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering，College of Design，College of Computer and Information Engineering，College of Electronics and Electrical Engineering，College of Science，College of Management，College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering，College of Vocational and Technical Education，College of Continuing Education，Department of Foreign Languages and Department of Physical Education．It also has a Graduate School and a Modern Educational Technology Center as well．Our university has now 6 key disciplines，10 major laboratories at the provincial or ministerial levels．
