Introduction

Jinan Foreign Language School (JFLS) was founded in 1989. It is located in the city of Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province. In Shandong Province, it is the only foreign language school registered in the State Education Ministry. In 2001, Jinan Foreign Language School became one of the 17 high schools all round China that have been authorized by the State Education Ministry with qualification to recommend their graduates directly to major universities in China. The school has now developed into an educational group with kindergarten, primary school, high school, adult and social educational programs.

JFLS has been devoting itself to exchanges and co-operation with foreign countries. Up till now, friendly co-operative relationship has been established with many foreign universities and educational institutes in the USA, Japan, Canada, Russia, Australia , France and the U.K. The school, as a window school in Shandong Province, becomes popular with more and more educators and teachers around the world. Therefore, many of them have come and enjoyed their teaching experience here.

The school implements the curriculum designed by the State Education Ministry, while stressing the teaching characteristics in foreign languages and it pays much attention to developing students' practical listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. Now English, Japanese and Russia are taught as foreign languages at the school and the language lessons are given in small classes with a size of 16-25 students. The school adopts original foreign textbooks and foreign teachers present some of the lessons. Now every year the school has 25-30 foreign teachers coming from the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, France and Russia.

Jinan Foreign Language School has 5,000 students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve and the number of the staff is about 600. Now it has four campuses including a primary school, two junior high schools and two senior high schools. They are all well-equipped with first-class teaching facilities. And the primary school and the senior high school are boarding schools.

The school has an apartment building and a cosy western dining-hall for foreign teachers in the beautiful primary school. There is a bedroom, a sitting-room, a dining-room and a wash-room in each apartment and these apartments have got good electrical equipment such as television, air-conditioner, refrigerator, microwave, etc.
