Yantai Vocational College

Yantai Vocational College, approved by the People’s Government of Shandong Province and sponsored by the People’s Government of Yantai City, is a full-time college-level educational institution and designated by the Ministry of Education as an experimental base to develop “the national project of skill-based talents”. There are so far in the college staff 1178 including teachers 589, full-time students 18000, adult students some 5000, and departments and faculties 22, various practicing workshops and labs 98, library books over 700,000 and all kinds of devices and equipment totaling CNY 41 million or so in value. The “Training Base of Shandong Province for Manufacturing Industry” has already been built up here, the national “Experimental Base of Digital Technology” is now under construction, and the specialties of electromechanical integration and accounting are designated by the Department of Education of Shandong Province as demonstration ones for the provincial higher vocational education.

Since it came into being, the college has aimed at the goal to foster it to a “large-scale, high-level, distinctive and far-reaching” first-class vocational college in China to meet the needs of social and economic development, firmly followed the policy of “providing service to local economic construction and bringing up epoch-required useful personnel”, adhered to the educational concept of “taking service as core of its mission, taking employment as guide and taking students as center”, and consequently established an educational system of “making each and every student a specialist and generalist and qualified in many fields”, which means that while a student has got a diploma, he is qualified for several occupational certificates as well. The graduates are widely acknowledged and highly praised by employers and the employment rate has kept as high as at least 98%.

Boasting its advantages in terms of “order-based” training program and joint education with foreign partners, the college has successively formed partnership with 40-odd large enterprises such as Shanghai GM Autos, Qingdao Hengda Group and Changyu Group. In 2005, the “order-based” students accounted for 30% of the total entrants. Moreover, the college has cooperated with a dozen of countries including USA, Japan, Singapore in the field of overseas employment and as a result, more than 300 students hitherto have found satisfied jobs overseas. Approved by the provincial government, the college has founded an InternationalExchangeCollege that is mainly engaged in joint education together with several well-known foreign universities like KoreanDongmingInformationUniversity to whom over 30 students have been sent for further study.

The college now has started the translocation project, that is, CNY 800 million is invested in the university zone of the east seaside for a land area of 2000 mu to build a 600,000m2 new campus with capacity for 20,000 students in order to make the college develop in a better way and at faster speed.
