Introduction

Luliang Higher College (LHC), as a Shanxi local state-own college, locates in the west of Shanxi province, neighboring the world-famous Yellow River on the west, and the beautiful Baiwudang scenery resort on the north. The college consists of two parts, the East Campus and the West Campus, stretching an area of 300 mu (200,000m2), and out of which 115 thousand square metres being of built-up area. LHC, as a comprehensive institution for liberal art, science, and technology, has 15 departments, 25 specialities and it has 5 four-year university-level specialities, namely Mathematics, Chemistry, Chinese, Physics and English. The college also offers 8 adult further education specialities. Graduates of LHC will be high school teachers and engineers in various areas.

Luliang Higher College has a well-structured tremendous teaching staff, a total of 500 people. There are 87 professors and vice-professors, 166 others who have intermediate professional titles. There are 42 people who received their Ph. D and Master Degree., and 14 more rewarded of the title Young and middle-aged Backbone Teacher of Shanxi. The teaching staff has been improving its teaching quality, and has published large number of essays and scientific research reports: 2000 essays and 100 books, according to an incomplete statistics.

Luliang Higher College has modern library, laboratories, student dormitory, and other teaching-related facilities. The library has 220 thousand volumes of books, and more than 350 journals. The college laboratory building has a usable floor area of 16599 square metres, and it consists of the phonetic testing lab, computer center, chemical analysis lab and other 61 standard laboratories. The college has a television station, and runs its own campus computer network, which also serves as the main nod of Luliang in the national China Education and Research Network. So with facility and instrument that values more than 17 million RMB yuan, LHC stands in the first rank among its fellow colleges.

Luliang Higher College has more than 10 thousand graduated students who are now working as backbones in schools, enterprises, and administrative bodies. LHC has made significant progress in the building of teaching staff, new specialities and fundamental facilities. These achievements have been fully approved by the national Education Ministry, Shanxi provincial government and Shanxi Education Committee. For the present time, under the leadership of the new president, a unified Luliang Higher College, are striving hard for the new century¡¯s challenges as well as opportunities.
