Founded in 1960, Xihua University has developed into a leading multi-disciplinary institution of higher learning administered by SichuanProvince. Located in Jinniu District of Chengdu Municipality, the university covers an area of about 240 hectares. A tributary of the Minjiang River flows through its lush campus, creating a favorable environment for study and research.

Under the university 19 colleges offer 57 undergraduate programs in five disciplinary areas of engineering, management, liberal arts, science and economics. Its computer-controlled library system has a collection of 2,600,000 volumes including electronic versions.

Among 1500 university faculty, 500 are full professors and associate professors. Four academicians have been invited to take the position as academic committee director for the provincial priority laboratory on campus. Other 14 academicians and 43 distinguished professors work part time with the university.

The student population amounts to more than 26,000. Full time undergraduate and graduate students total some 21,000. The university offers 25 master degree programs and 6 disciplines authorized to confer master degrees of engineering. Graduates from XihuaUniversity can continue to pursue a doctoral degree through credit transfer agreements signed between the university and other nationally renowned universities. Xihua University has 5 laboratories and 4 disciplines that are of provincial priority status. In addition, there are 7 undergraduates training bases, 1 demonstration center for general courses teaching and 1 engineering center, all of which are well recognized in the province.

XihuaUniversity has been vigorously pursuing international academic exchanges. As of now, it has established collaborative relations with more than twenty universities from nearly 14 countries and regions, e.g. the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. Partnering with six universities in the U.S on the “ 1+2+1” program, Xihua University provides its students a wonderful opportunity to earn dual degrees from both Chinese and American universities over the course of four or five years.
