The Education Department of Sichuan Province, China invites qualified teachers to teach conversational English.

Brief introduction to Sichuan province

Sichuan is an air-pollution-free, fertile, agricultural province with many rich mineral, water and biological resources in southwest China. The mountains of Tibet that lie to the west are famous for their natural beauty, forests and waterfalls. 80% of the giant panda bears live in Sichuan. Many world heritage historical sites, such as Jiuzaigou Valley, Mt. Emei and Mt. Qingcheng listed in the “World Legacies of Nature” , and temples , famous gigantic rock carvings of Buddha are located here.

About us

Education Department of Sichuan Province is an executive department under the People's Government of Sichuan Province. It implements state laws and policies in education, and does overall educational planning for the whole province. The Office of International Exchange and Cooperation is one of the most significant divisions in the Education Department. It supervises international education exchanges, publicizes relevant education information overseas, and develops high-level international academic exchange programs. It is specifically responsible for conducting the employment and administrative management of foreign experts and teachers and sending Chinese students to study abroad.

At present, many foreign experts and English teachers are needed in schools. Therefore, the office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Sichuan Education Association for International Exchanges are actively recruiting overseas. We will assist the foreign experts and teachers to get legitimate work visas and residence permits and to supervise schools to ensure that the foreign experts' and teachers' rights and interests are met.


Teacher Qualifications

1 . Native English speaker or a person who has resided in an English speaking country for more than 5 years and speaks like a native speaker.
2 . Have a teaching certificate or license in TEFL / ESL or 2 full years experience teaching TEFL / ESL in a school.
3 .A bachelor degree or 2 years teaching experience in any subject in a junior or senior high school.

1 . Good knowledge of English grammar and clear, pronunciation. Speak Standard English correctly with minimum regional accent.
2 .Ability to plan and teach interesting lessons to a class of 35 to 70 students.
3 .Personality should be responsible, friendly, outgoing, patient, and adaptable to non-western customs and living standards.
4 . While teaching, to be well-groomed, dress professionally and behave in a manner that sets a good, moral example for the students
5 .Be in good health and not get sick easily. Have good physical stamina to squat, walk, and climb lots of stairs.



Benefits for Teaching on a One-Year (from September 1 st to June 30 th ) or Half- Year Contact

1 . A rent-free, two-bedroom, fully-furnished apartment. This includes refrigerator, stove, washing machine, air conditioner-heater, TV and computer

2 . Free round-trip air transportation from and to the foreign country where you reside. One-way transportation to China will be given for half-year contract. The teacher purchases the air ticket to China and gives the receipt to the school for a refund. Two-way tickets price cannot exceed 6,000 RMB, approximately($720)

3 . Vacation time for Chinese national and school holidays. In October, 3 school days at National day. In January or February, 20 days in winter vacation. In May, 3 school days at labor day. You also have 2 days off a year for your own religious holyday.

Monthly Salary

Your salary will be three times more than what Chinese teachers receive. Depending on your education and years of teaching experience you will receive from 3000 RMB (approximately US$360) up to 4500 RMB (approx US $560) if you have a MA in ESL/TEFL or closely related area and 20 years teaching experience. The cost of living in China is very low so you will be able to save most of your salary or use it for travel and souvenirs

Teaching Duties

1 .Your teaching load will depend on the school to which you are assigned, a junior or senior high school or university. (To teach at a university you must have a MA and at least 10 years experience teaching ESL/TEFL to adults.) The average is between sixteen and twenty periods of instruction (40 to 50 minutes a period) during a 5-day work week.

2 . Teach conversational English: stress pronunciation, grammar structures by using oral substitution drills, dialogues, read out loud stories, songs, games, listening comprehension exercises, group discussions, and short drama presentations.

3 .Be available twice a week for “English corner” time to casually chat with students and teachers.
