Tianjin University of Science and Technology grew out of Tianjin Institute of Light Industry, which was set up in 1958. It is located in Tianjin, a port city in northern China by the Bohai Sea. Tianjin is a municipality directly under the Central Government as well as Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. It is only 120 kilometers away from Beijing. Highway and railway link the two cities, so it is very convenient to travel between the two cities.
There are about 15,000 students studying in 17 institutes and faculties. The university has a group of experts and professors who have rich teaching experience and scientific research ability. Among all 1,400 staff, there are 147 doctor and master tutors and more than 400 teachers who have senior professional title. The university is among the first group of universities that are allowed to accept international students by Ministry of Education. All the established majors recruit international students. International students from more than 10 countries have been recruited. The university sends excellent undergraduates to study abroad every year. In 2001, the university passed the evaluation of random undergraduate course education performed by Ministry of Education. The academic atmosphere of the university is strong. The tutorial system, double-degree system and major and minor system are implemented in undergraduate education. And to those who are extremely excellent, the university will recommend them to study for a master degree free of examinations when they graduate. The university attaches great importance to develop students¡¯ all-around qualities. Students are organized to take part in colorful campus activities and social practice. As a result, the all-around qualities of the students are raised. The students have been awarded on Challenge Cup National College Students Science and Technology Innovation Undertaking Starting Project Contest and College Students Social Practice Activity time after time. In 2004, Huang Shanshan won the bronze medal of women bumping jump on Athens Olympic Games. Note: undergraduate students 1£®must reach a C level in Chinese Proficiency Test for foreigners. 2£®high school graduates have to take some entrance tests for relevant courses. Semester: For Students for advanced studies of Chinese, undergraduate students, and master course students: The first semester: from the end of February to early July The second semester: from the beginning of September to next late January (Students for advanced studies of Chinese can choose a one-year course or a one-school term course)
Admission application, Visa granting and entering China: Students need to apply to International Communication Department for a Admission Application Form, then carefully fill in it and send it back to the department. The department will send to the applicant an Admission Notice and a JW202 Form. The applicant has to carry the two documents to take a physical examination and get an X Visa (Studying Visa) at the Chinese embassy (consulate) in the country the student lives in, and then must enter China and register with the university within the fixed time limit.

Charge norm: According to the relevant regulations of China National Education Commission, the university formulates a charge norm for commoner foreign students as follows:
Undergraduate course students: 2000 USD/ per academic year,length of schooling: 4 years Master course students: 3000 USD/per academic year,length of schooling: 2-3 years Doctor course students: 4000 USD/per academic year,length of schooling: 2-3 years Chinese major graduate students: 1500 USD/per academic year, length of schooling: 1-2 years Short-term Chinese training course students in winter vacation & summer vacation: 50 USD/ per week,length of schooling: 2-12 weeks
Accommodation Fee: double-bedded room:4.5 USD/ each bed per day single-bed room:9 USD/ each bed per day B: Registration Fee: 30 USD C: Residence Conditions: The rooms are equipped with telephones (students need to pay their own telephone expenses), air conditioners, central heating, toilets, lighting and furniture. For a chartered room, the student needs to pay 10 USD each day. D: Medical expenses, medical insurance, teaching material fee, the expenses for experiments, practice, specialty visiting not included in teaching plans are all on the students. Arrival and Departure: When applicants enter or leave China through Tianjin Customs, the university will send free cars to escort. But if applicants enter or leave China through other customs, they have to bear the related expenses.
