Set up in 1951, Qitai No.1 Middle School is a large one with an area of 360 Chinese mu. It is a senior middle school with over 3500 students and 400 teachers, located on the northern side of Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang, China. It is one of the key schools in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region; Besides , it includes 3 branches_____3 junior middle schools outside the school campus  and 1 modernized kindgarten. In the near future, it will become an educational center in Xinjiang. Not only is it a very well--known school, with a long history and an excellent school spirit, but also, it is a characteristic school with great achievements and far reaching influence.

Qitai No. 1 Middle School is always in a leading position in education in Changji, Xinjiang. Thanks to its foreign language teaching achievements, it has its own teaching characteristics. Now one of its branches school has successfully applied for Foreign Language School. Mr. Zhao Xianlin, headmaster of the school and vice-headmaster, both young and ambitious, are also English experts, they are well known in education in Xinjiang. In 2002, we gained the certificate of employing foreign teachers, since then, we have had 4 foreign teachers in our school, and now we have two native speakers from Britain teaching.

There are many opportunities for people who enjoy sports. There are basketball, football and table tennis courts on school campus and the students are always eager for their foreign teachers to join in with them. There are basketball matches every Saturday night during the summer and autumn terms. As well as this there are opportunities for Tai Ji, mountain biking, hiking and climbing in the mountains. Since the school is situated at the base of the Tian Shan Mountains there are many opportunities for walks in the mountains amongst the stunning scenery.

During the autumn term there is a trip into the desert where the students spend 2 days planting trees. In winter there are trips to small villages to teach for 1 day at schools which in all likelihood have never seen foreigners before. The school also arranges trips to local scenic spots such as Tian Chi Lake and Banjiegou.
