Introduction

The year of 2000 saw the founding of Qujing Normal University. It is the only undergraduate college in Northeastern Yunnan and was authorized by the State Education Committee in March of the same year. It is a new University formed by the mergence of Qujing Teachers College, Qujing Education College and Qujing Normal School. It is located in the downtown area of Qujing City, 140km away from the Spring City---Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province. It enjoys beautiful scenery and comfortable weather.

The University covers an area of 1822 mu . The total floor area of buildings is 211,000 ? , and the fixed assets are 28,468,000 RMB, of which teaching equipment value is 33,960,000 RMB. The library holds 580,000 copies and the campus Internet has been set up recently.

Its total staff amounts to 565 members, including 385 teachers, of which 11 are doctors and 123 are professors and associate professors, 63 have master degree and five have doctor degree, four teachers enjoy special allowance authorized by the State Council, nine are young academic leaders in Qujing City and ten were awarded Zeng Xianzi Funds for Education.

The total number of students is 6,267, including. There are 2848 adult education students, 14,000 Radio and Television University students.

The University attaches great important to scientific research. The past 27 years witnessed the publication of more than 3,600 research papers and 250 academic books by its members who also hosted and participated in over 34 provincial and municipal research projects. More than 60 projects in teaching and scientific research were awarded the provincial and municipal government. The Journal of Qujing Normal University acquired` Issn 1008-2743 and Cn 53-5068/G4 registration numbers in 1999, it is issued both at home and abroad.

Construction of Faculty
Qujing Nomal University attaches great importance to faculty construction and views a key work of scientific research and in-service training.. The measures are as follows:

1. To encourage young and middle-aged teachers to register for graduate and postgraduate courses for master and doctor degrees;

2. To aid young and middle-aged teachers to go to the leading universities as visiting scholars, or to take short-term in-service training for their professional development.

3. To engage experts to instruct the programs such as educational theory, computer-assisted learning and professional ethics for teachers.

4. To hold teaching technique competitions for young and middle-aged teachers, and demonstration lectures for those who have senior academic ranks.

5. To require teachers less than 45 years to achieve proficiency in compute using English and Mandarin

6. To require a practicum program, sending young teachers to practice – teach in rural middle schools.

7. To encourage teachers to conduct research in methodology and academic areas and to analyze and implement findings of scientific research, thereby cultivating academic leaders while reinforcing the college's body of scientific research.

The University is composed of 15 departments, which are departments of Chinese, Economy/ Politics & Law, History & Public Management, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & life science, Information & Computer Science, P.E., Music & Dance, Arts, Elementary Education, Psy & Pedagogy, College English and Ideology Teaching & Research. There is a TV University and three centers of Internet, Adult Education and Continual Education. There are 29 pedagogical specialties, three higher professional education specialties, and over 30 adult educational specialties in correspondence, night school programs, TVU, and Continual Education Center.

Teaching Mode
The University has tried much to meet the needs of the basic education and contribute to development of the local economy. It aims at the guiding principle that undergraduate education and full-time education are the keys, junior college education and adult educations are also important. The aim of the college's development is to integrate universal education and training programs, education and higher vocational education, pre-and post-occupation development.

Construction of Campus Internet
The campus inter-net was established in November, 2000. Last September, the University programmed the future Internet construction, which serves the long—distance education

To serve the needs of social development, the University will add new majors and faculty and strengthen academic exchanges. At the same time, the University will develop friendly ties with international institutions. With help and cooperation, Qujing Normal University is marching forward with each passing day.

Ⅱ. The demanding plan for the foreign teachers and experts.
At present, our university has invited nineteen foreign teachers for eleven years to teach since 1986. The foreign teachers are satisfied with the life, the teaching of our university, both the foreign teachers and our university made a very pleasant cooperation. Based on the development need of our university, we will invite English annually. The invitation period is one-year .The payment will be carried out according to the concerned rules by the State.

Short - term Programs for Chinese Language
Training and Cultural Studies
(I). 4 - month credit program for Chinese Language and culture studies.
Period
: March 1 — June 30

Contents:
1.
Chinese Language: 240 teaching hours , 20 hours per week , 3 month's continuous study .

2. Lectures: 24 lectures, 2 lectures per week, 2 hours each lectures, the lectures are: Chinese history, Chinese geography, Chinese polities, Chinese economy, the reform and opening - up policies of China, Chinese religions, Chinese ethnic minorities, Chinese philosophy, Chinese literature, Chinese traditional medicine, Chinese tea, Chinese folk music, Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese martial art (wushu), Chinese education, Chinese traditional musical instruments, scenic and historical spots in Yunnan , Chinese weiqi , Chinese chess , Chinese minority dancing , Yunnan local culture and Yunnan economy .

3. Study Trips to scenic and historical places:
Trips in and around Kunming: Stone Forest, Western Hills, Nationalities, Museum, Minority Village, And Horticultural Exposition.

Trips for culture research in and around Qujing: Huize, Louping, Zaiyi. Researches for one month to Dali, Zhongdian, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna or other places. At least two papers are required after the study trips.

(II). Yunnan Minority Culture Study Program in Winter Vocation Period:
Around Spring Festival for one month

Contents:
1. Chinese language: 40 — 60 hours
8 lectures: Chinese calligraphy, Chinese history, Chinese geography, Chinese traditional customs, Chinese martial arts (wushu), Yunnan culture, Chinese religion, Chinese politics and economy.

2.Trips for minority culture:
Trips in and around Kunming, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Zhongdian, Xishuangbanna.

3. Other activities:
Experience the Spring Festival with families of Chinese people.

Introduction to services of the International Students' Hotel
1. Rooms in apartment (3 rooms in a apartment, one bathroom for three rooms, telephone, color TV) 25 Yuan ($ US 3.0) per day for one bed.

2. Restaurant: snack is served, 3-5 Yuan ($US 0.5) for one meal.

3. Laundry: wet wash

4. Internet service: 80 Yuan ($US 10) per month

Qualification Requirements for International Students
All healthy people who is willing to study in our university, to follow the laws and regulations of China and the regulations of our university are welcome to apply to study in our university.

Applying Process
1. Applicants should contact directly with the Foreign Affairs Office for International Students to ask for student's visa, JW202 form, which can be obtained and sent back through Internet.

2. Qujing Teachers' College mails back the authorized visa application form and the notification of acceptance to the applicant.

3. Applicant goes to Chinese embassy or consulate with notification letter of acceptance, JW202 form and physical examination report to apply student's visa (X visa) and then come to our university to register.

Fees for International Students
1. Registration fee: 100 yuan (or 10 US.dollars)

2. Tuition fee for long term (four months) language students, 16 weeks, 6600 yuan (or 800 US dollars) for one semester.

3. Fees for home-stay (one room and food) 800 Yuan ( or 100 US. Dollars)

4. Fees for textbooks, resident card and physical examination should be covered by students themselves: about 80 Yuan ( or 10 US dollars) for textbooks, about 200 Yuan ( or 25 US dollar) for resident card, about 300 Yuan ( or 35 US dollars) for physical examination.
